UI LABS provides a research environment for universities and industry leaders to develop and apply solutions to critical economic and industrial challenges. The Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute (DMDII) is UI LABS’ first program. A public-private partnership, DMDII facilitates collaboration between global manufacturing and technology companies and university, government, and community partners.
UI LABS renovated portions of the east and north facades of the manufacturing half of the building to provide space for DMDII and to create a distinctive entry. This modification involved the demolition of portions of the existing building to create space for open offices, team and meeting rooms, support spaces, an IT hub, manufacturing spaces, and a reception lobby.
Baumann Consulting provided commissioning services for DMDII. As the commissioning agent, Baumann supported the design, construction, and operation of the project. Our team documented UI LABS project requirements for energy, water, indoor environmental quality, and durability. Baumann then verified that these requirements were met.
