Campus and Community Energy Master Planning in North America based on Global Best Practice

To reach Washington, D.C.’s 50% GHG emission reduction goal by 2032 and carbon neutrality by 2050, energy efficiency efforts must move from implementing savings at individual buildings to the development, campus, district, and city levels.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The panelists, a team of local and international energy experts with decades of experience in district wide energy savings will present an IEMP procedure that has been successfully implemented in many campuses, districts, and cities in North America. The seminar includes:

  • development of framing goals
  • benchmarking & base case scenarios
  • large scale modeling of efficiency scenarios
  • district energy planning
  • economic modeling
  • community outreach & stakeholder inclusion

With energy and greenhouse gas reduction goals similar to Washington, D.C.’s ambitious plan, Sheridan College is an excellent example how an integrated energy master plan, starting with explicit framing goals (50% reduction in energy and 60% in GHGs by 2032, 7% internal rate of return) can deliver a prioritized, actionable road-map for the college to follow in order to reach breakthrough economic, environmental, and reliability goals.

The panelists will discuss the successes and challenges of Sheridan College and other campuses and districts‘ energy master plans and the adaptability to Washington DC’s and the Washington Metropolitan area’s goals.
