The full modernization and expansion of the historic Raymond Elementary School totals 85,000-sf of educational space. The programming includes a gym, cafeteria, auditorium, small group rooms, resource rooms, and discovery common spaces.
The project goals included achieving the highest levels of sustainability and pursuing LEED Gold and LEED Zero as well as a WELL Gold certification.
Baumann Consulting was the sustainability consultant leading the project team through all three different certifications.
The Net-Zero Energy goal was achieved by:
- Reducing air infiltration and improving glazing system performance at the historic building
- Automatic shading system to reduce lighting and HVAC loads
- Demand control systems for plug loads, lighting, and HVAC equipment
- Geothermal heat pumps and radiant heating and cooling systems
- Highly efficient solar canopies over parking and roof areas
Baumann is tracking the energy consumption for 15 months after completion to verify system operation. The approach includes visualization of trend data to identify opportunities for building performance improvement to help achieve the project’s net-zero site energy consumption goal.
