GWU Energy Audits

Baumann provided Level I + II Energy Auditing services to GWU for 23 academic and administrative buildings, all that are 50,000 square feet and larger, located throughout the Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, D.C. and the GW Virginia Science & Technology Campus in Ashburn, Virginia.

The George Washington University (GWU) is a leading research and educational institution in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area, with three campuses comprising over five million square feet. The GWU employs 2,363 faculty and enrolls 28,000 students.

GWU contracted Baumann Consulting to perform ASHRAE Level 1 + 2 Energy Audit services for 23 of their largest facilities. GWU’s ultimate objective is to have a roadmap that will help them achieve compliance with D.C.’s Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS).

Baumann’s recommendations yield an energy-saving potential of 32%, and an energy cost reduction of $3.1 million per year at an average simple return on investment of 8-15 years per building. By providing costs and energy savings estimates of each recommendation, the facilities managers and decision-makers will be able to weigh capital improvement budgets with reductions in energy and maintenance costs.
