Baumann Consulting conducted an Energy Assessment for a 372,000-SF office and research & development building in Scottsdale, AZ to identify energy saving measures and improve building performance.

Stockdale Acquisitions, LLC owns a creative office and research & development building located at 19001 North Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, AZ, and is looking for solutions to improve its building performance. Constructed in 2008, the building has a gross floor area of 372,000 ft2 with a site Energy Use Index (EUI) of 66.8 kBtu/ft2.

The building is conditioned by 19 air handling units (AHUs) serving different zones of the buildings. The building’s cooling and heating are provided by water-cooled chillers and steam boilers, respectively. As part of this energy assessment, two weeks of trend data from the summer months were available which were later used for energy savings analysis.

Baumann Consulting conducted an energy assessment for this project and identified eight energy savings measures. The top energy-saving measures identified included:

  • Optimum start/stop sequence
  • Calibrating ambient temperature sensor
  • Duct static pressure reset
  • Replacing supply fan motor for AHUs
  • Condenser water supply temperature reset

Through these measures, the building will be able to reduce their site energy consumption by 10% with a payback in less than 2 years. This is the equivalent of reducing the annual emissions by 563 metric tons of CO2.
